Wow! Its Been a LongTime!

Wow! It has been a long time since I last posted anything. Learning the new curriculum for 2nd grade has been much more time consuming than I had anticipated. Having, said that I am making a resolution to post something at least once a week. (Keep your fingers crossed). Soooooooo ......what have second graders been up to the last 3 months? Fire Safety Week

Thank you to the Chittenango Volunteer Fire Department for volunteering their time to educate our second graders on fire safety. Although it rained and we could not explore the fire truck, students still enjoyed the valuable presentation.

Second grade students enjoyed a very successful first day of school. It was filled with new friends, new routines, laughter and learning. I can't wait to spend the rest of the school year with this bunch!

Moving to Second Grade!!!

     Hello! For those of you who are visiting my site for the first time welcome! 

     My name is Heather Cowburn and I am a "new" second grade teacher at Lake Street Elementary. Prior to teaching 2nd grade I taught 1st grade for 6 years at our wonderful school. Although I was not anticipating moving to second, the opportunity to do so presented itself this summer and I thought it would be a fun and exciting change. 

     I can't wait to begin teaching a new curriculum this September! Please check this site often as I will post MANY photos and videos throughout the year.

     I am so looking forward to spending a new year on the second grade team!

Flat Stanley!

Our Flat Stanley travels have begun! Students have successfully created both their 'Flat Me's' and their 'Flat Stanley's'. We can't wait to see all of the exciting adventures they go on! They will be arriving home very shortly. Student's are pictured here holding their 'Flat Me's'.

Fat Tuesday "Mardi Gras"

Today students were treated to a french lesson about the origins of Mardi Gras with their high school french teachers. In addition, students ate a traditional Mardi Gras cake called a gateau des rois. Inside was a hidden object and whoever found it was considered king or queen for the day!
