Thank you to the Chittenango Volunteer Fire Department for volunteering their time to educate our second graders on fire safety. Although it rained and we could not explore the fire truck, students still enjoyed the valuable presentation.

Second Grade............WOW!!!
Moving to Second Grade!!!
Hello! For those of you who are visiting my site for the first time welcome!
My name is Heather Cowburn and I am a "new" second grade teacher at Lake Street Elementary. Prior to teaching 2nd grade I taught 1st grade for 6 years at our wonderful school. Although I was not anticipating moving to second, the opportunity to do so presented itself this summer and I thought it would be a fun and exciting change.
I can't wait to begin teaching a new curriculum this September! Please check this site often as I will post MANY photos and videos throughout the year.
I am so looking forward to spending a new year on the second grade team!

Fat Tuesday "Mardi Gras"
Today students were treated to a french lesson about the origins of Mardi Gras with their high school french teachers. In addition, students ate a traditional Mardi Gras cake called a gateau des rois. Inside was a hidden object and whoever found it was considered king or queen for the day!

Our Melted Snowman Olaf
On Friday, January 24th students gathered snow and made a snowman in class. They named him Olaf and observed as he transformed from snow into water. We then took equal amounts of Elmer's glue and shaving cream and painted a picture of him!

Happy New Year!
Students made new years resolutions! Many decided they wanted to challenge themselves and count to 600 or become better readers. Others wanted to learn to ride a motorcycle or learn to swim. Needless say they were each wonderfully unique. Happy New Year Everyone!

Lake Street Post Office
First grade students are busy delivering the mail to various classrooms at Lake Street Elementary. Each year Lake Street student’s take advantage of the ability to write letters and then send them through school mail. Letters are written throughout the week and delivered every Friday to friends and teachers. Keep writing those letters!
